Care day –
A New Way To become Involved

The Fred Hollows Foundation has announced a new national fund raising day.

I Care Day will be held on Valentine’s Day (February 14) each year, providing a focus point for supporting The Fred Hollows Foundation’s work fighting avoidable blindness around the world and improving health in Australia’s Indigenous communities.

The Fred Hollows Foundation-Rotarians Down Under Joint Partnership has been a terrific success story and it is expected I Care Day will present yet another opportunity to strengthen the bond.

There are a number of ways to get involved, such as staging a romantic movie night, holding an I Care fund raising dinner or raffling a Valentine’s Day prize pack.

You can also visit www.icareday.org and purchase an online Valentine’s Day card. The card will be delivered to your loved one and will include a thank you note explaining that the gesture has helped restore the sight of someone who is needlessly blind.

I Care Day has gained a lot of support from some very famous faces, including television’s Bert Newton, Australian netball captain Liz Ellis, science guru Doctor Karl Kruszelnicki and swimmers Susie O’Neill and Leisel Jones.

While it is nice to have so many high profile friends it is community support that will make I Care Day a success, ensuring The Fred Hollows Foundation can continue to work with partners like Rotary to make a real difference.
The website www.icareday.org has further information about I Care Day and a registration form for anyone interested in hosting a fund raising event.

R.I. officers invited to attend third annual reunion
The 2006 Past Officers’ Reunion (POR) will be held at the Shelter Pointe Hotel in San Diego, California, U.S.A., from February 19-21, 2006, coinciding with the R.I. International Assembly, scheduled for February 16-23, 2006, at the San Diego Manchester Grand Hyatt. The meeting is open to any Rotarian who has previously served as an R.I. officer, including district governors, presidents, and trustees.

The reunion was originally planned to fill the void left three years ago when R.I. stopped organising the R.I. Institute event, which ran in conjunction with the International Assembly. This year's reunion theme, Back to the Boathouse, looks to the first R.I. Institute hosted on a Lake Placid boathouse in New York, U.S.A. The event program includes meetings with R.I. President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, as well as with President-elect William Boyd and the president-nominee.

The Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Frank Devlyn and a number of other trustees are also scheduled to take part. Registration is $US140 and $90 for guests. The fee includes a Sunday night reception, Monday evening banquet, and two full days of informational and motivational meetings. For further details, contact Past District Governor Werner Schwarz by phone or fax at (415) 472-3385.
