ROTARY
AND INNER WHEEL

Inner Wheel puts wheels under Northcott

Northcott, a leading service provider for people with disabilities, will be able to improve the life of people with disabilities following a $A25,000 donation from the A53 Inner Wheel District.

A53 Inner Wheel includes clubs from Bankstown, Baulkham Hills, Beecroft, Blacktown City, Campsie, Guildford, Kenthurst, Liverpool Combined, Nepean, Norwest, Parramatta, Penrith, Ryde, St. Marys, Smithfield and The Hills in Sydney, N.S.W. Northcott, which supports people across New South Wales, has purchased two power wheelchairs with the money for its equipment loan pool.

We did it! Members of A53 Inner Wheel with the wheelchairs purchased by Northcott.

One of the chairs, a TRAX 4WD wheelchair, is designed to allow a child to use the wheelchair off-road making it ideal for children in regional areas.

The partnership was established through Sandra Castley during her term as District Chairman of the A53 Inner Wheel District.
“My aim was to provide for Northcott a wheelchair but we exceeded our expectations and bought two,” Mrs. Castley said.
The main fundraiser was a Quilt and Craft Show held at the Dural Country Club in May which raised $14,500. The balance came from the individual fund raising efforts of 17 Inner Wheel clubs within the A53 Inner Wheel District from across Sydney.

Northcott was founded by the Rotary Club of Sydney in the early years of the 20th century to provide for children who were physically debilitated by tuberculosis, polio and other diseases. This is one of several reasons why Northcott was chosen as Sandra Castley’s District Chairman’s Charity.

Northcott’s library is named after the late Rose Manches who was a member of the Inner Wheel Club of North Sydney.
Inner Wheel had its beginnings in Manchester England in 1924 by the wives of Rotarians.

The name Inner Wheel was chosen to describe the connection with the Rotary Wheel which is the small wheel contained therein.
Inner Wheel now is one of the world’s largest women’s service organisations whose members enjoy a unique friendship whilst energetically working to raise funds for those in need both locally and Internationally.
