ROTARACTORS SANTA’S HELPERS AND THEN HOSPITAL HEROES
The fund-raising efforts of the Rotaract Club of St. Ives, N.S.W., were appreciated when they visited the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, N.S.W.

Members of the Rotaract Club of St Ives, N.S.W., found how hectic a day at the hospital can be when they went to The Children’s Hospital, Westmead, to donate their fund raising.

They also wanted to get an insight into how the oncology department works, specifically the areas of leukaemia research and treatment.

Rotaractors were graciously shown around the wards by Nicola Mackay, the account manager at the hospital. They met some of the young patients.

“We decided to try to raise money in a different way this year,” said Past President Evan Burrell.

At Christmas, club members undertook the roles of Santa’s helpers in the Ku-Ring-Gai and Hornsby communities.
They visited nursing homes on Christmas Eve, giving out Christmas cheer and collecting donations.
They also sold Christmas trees and hosted other fund raising events during the year.
The club donated the sum of $A3,000 toward leukaemia research at the Children's Hospital.
Nicola Mackay said: “It is fantastic that all members of the club and the community got behind our project and the children will really benefit from the monies raised”.

* St. Ives Rotaractors will host an interest night at the Green Gate Hotel, Pacific Highway, Killara, N.S.W., on March14 from 7.30p.m. Contact is Evan Burrell on telephone 0404 061 981 or email eburrell@bigpond.net.au
