issue No 455
September 2004

this month's cover

This month’s cover shows Rotary service old and new. The Rotary Youth Exchange Program in picture one is a long-standing success which allowed Loli Laire from Brazil to meet Australian aviation icon Nancy-Bird Walton, 90, who
was guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Castle Hill Apprentice Awards in Sydney, N.S.W. Her 20-minute address was an interesting tale. Picture Two shows Nast- assia Bondarenko Edwards, an exchange student sponsored by the Rotary Club of Healesville, Vic., who is in Brazil. She is a volunteer in a creche twice a week and has initiated a program to improve the lot of the children there. Picture three shows how Rotarians serving in Russia are making life happier for children. Picture four shows Rotarian Graham Hicks, from the Rotary Club of Canberra Sunrise, A.C.T., with Jean Giesler, at left, and Simone Gubler from Canberra, A.C.T., who attended the Hong Kong Model United Nations (MUNA) conference. Rotarian Graham accompanied the students as counsellor. Mark Schultz and David Brenneche, from Melbourne, Vic., also attended.
